CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — Fire officials have denied a previous claim that a barn fire that killed at least 11 animals may have been arson.

The two residents that live on the farm in Cranston previously said investigators suspected the fire was started intentionally based on evidence.

The city’s fire marshal now tells The Providence Journal there is “no indication” that arson took place. Fire Marshal Stephen MacIntosh said Thursday the cause of the fire was undetermined, and the destroyed barn left little for investigators to review.

The three-story barn, estimated to be about 100 feet by 100 feet in size, burned to the ground Sunday. Officials say horses, goats and ponies were killed.

Fire officials say no civilians or firefighters were injured.
